Playback Singer Kalpana Raghavendar Opens Up About Overdose Incident

Renowned playback singer Kalpana Raghavendar recently found herself in the spotlight after an overdose incident at her Nizampet residence in Hyderabad. The incident, which occurred on March 2, initially raised concerns about a possible suicide attempt. However, upon regaining consciousness, the singer clarified to the police that it was not an attempt at taking her life but rather an accidental overdose of insomnia tablets.

A Personal Struggle

In her statement to the KPHB police, Kalpana disclosed that the overdose stemmed from a personal conflict with her daughter, Daya Prasad, regarding her education. The singer wanted her daughter to continue her studies in Hyderabad, but her daughter disagreed. Overwhelmed by the situation and struggling to sleep, Kalpana admitted to taking eight sleeping tablets without success, followed by another ten tablets, after which she lost consciousness.

Kalpana’s inability to respond raised alarm among the apartment’s security staff, who alerted the neighbors when her door remained closed for two days. Upon investigation, authorities found her unconscious in the bedroom and rushed her to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Family’s Statement

Amid media speculation, Kalpana’s daughter Daya urged reporters to refrain from misrepresenting the facts. “Our family is perfectly fine. My mom and dad are happy. I am happy. My mom is perfectly fine. She will be back in a few days,” she reassured.

Kalpana Raghavendar, the daughter of acclaimed playback singer TS Raghavendra, has been a prominent figure in the music industry. Having started her singing journey at the age of five, she gained national attention after winning Star Singer Malayalam in 2010.
